Department of Library and Information Science

The Department of Library and Information Science at Lok Mahavidyalaya Wardha has been offering Postgraduate (PG) Education through MLIS in Library Science since 2007. The department is committed to providing quality education and promoting the holistic development of students. It aims to develop students' understanding of Library, Library Science concept.

The Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) is specialized postgraduate professional degree designed to equip students with skills to manage, preserve, organize and disseminate data in forms of books, journals, reference book, documentary files etc. effectively across an increasing digital landscape.

The department undertaken various academic, co-curricular and practical learning activities to enhance students' knowledge and skills. These the modern MLIS curriculum extensively bridges the gap between traditional print-based library methodologies and advanced computer science principles. These include the study circle, bridge courses for newly admitted students, remedial coaching for slow learners, academic support for advanced learners, assignments, seminars, unit tests and practice examination. The department also organizes library visit, competitive examination guidance, workshops on library documents, e-journals, e- book, software’s of library and information science.

Students engage deeply with fields like information creation, database administration, metadata creation and knowledge management. They also explore complex legal and structural frameworks including copyrights law, intellectual property rights, open access initiatives and digital and manual preservation strategies. This multi-disciplinary approach transforms graduates into information experts capable of steering modern data infrastructures. The department arrange special sessions and special lectures with theoretical knowledge with practical applications.

Through these initiatives the Department of Library and Information Science strives to develop analytical thinking and making it a highly adaptable qualification in data driven global economy.
